    Description

Pair of Jugate Sacco and Vanzetti 1" Pinbacks. Both of these buttons sport the same central device which is a portrait of Nicola Sacco on the left and Bartolemeo Vanzetti on the right. The earlier of the pair pleas for their "Life and Freedom" whereas the later pinback urges us to "Remember Labor's Martyrs". Both buttons have minor scratches and/or corrosion spots along their edges, else they are in very fine condition. Sacco and Vanzetti, Italian immigrants and known anarchists, were tried, convicted, and executed for a 1920 payroll robbery in which two men were killed. Both suspects proclaimed their innocence to no avail and were electrocuted on August 23, 1927. Their lengthy case received worldwide attention when it appeared that the American judicial system had gone awry. Appeals were denied and evidence was ignored. Charges of prejudice against Italians and intolerance of radical politics made the Sacco-Vanzetti trial a case study in what exactly constitutes civil liberties.
