James M. Cox: 1909 Wright Brothers Homecoming Button. In 1909, the Wright Brothers toured Europe and basked in the glory of their Kitty Hawk flight and subsequent aviation innovations. Upon their return to Dayton, a homecoming celebration was organized and a souvenir button issued for the occasion. James M. Cox, editor of the "Dayton Daily News", was a recently-elected Congressman, future Governor and presidential candidate. He apparently sponsored both the button and the event. The 1 3/4" button pictures the original Wright plane and reads: "Welcome Home Dayton, O. June 1909 Kings of the Air Wright Brothers. Compliments of James M. Cox". It has some light staining, mainly around the perimeter, and includes the Whitehead & Hoag back paper. In perfect condition, auction records exceed $5,000.

You reach a customer base that is in many ways completely unknown to the major auction houses, and your marketing to this base is as professional as one could hope for. As I continue to wind down my holdings.
