Harry S Truman: The Legendary "Truman 8-Ball" Button In Superb Condition. One of the truly iconic political button rarities, it shows a picture of Harry behind the eight-ball. Long considered, along with the "60 Million Working" design, as one of the top varieties for this highly-collectible candidate. Only several examples of the "Truman 8-Ball" are known, and if this is not the very best example, it is surely tied for that honor. This is an 1 3/8" lithographed tin button. Notoriously vulnerable to chipping and scratching of the surface, it is as pristine as a litho button can be. Absolutely unimprovable condition, especially for such a great rarity. Sure to engender serious bidding from both Truman collectors and generalists alike. It may have been inspired by the June 1948 event in which the Los Angeles Press Club awarded President Truman their "8-Ball" award. Though all the pundits placed Truman between the 8-ball in the 1948 election, he pulled off an historic, upset victory.
