Description

Harding & Coolidge: An Utterly Spectacular 2 ¼-inch Jugate Design. These judgments are-of course-subjective, but to our taste, this large red, white and blue variety is simply the best jugate of the 1920-24 era. All Harding-Coolidge jugates are tough, but this variety is prohibitively rare. In four decades we have only seen two others. One of the two was noticeably stained, and the other has been deeply ensconced for decades in a small but very refined collection. We have heard anecdotally of perhaps one or two other examples.

The design speaks for itself! The red and blue colors are so vivid the button almost seems three-dimensional. Choice condition with glossy surface, and certainly one of the top celluloids in the Berman collection. From the Merrill C. Berman Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
