DescriptionFull-Color Bryan & Stevenson Jugate "Eclipse" Button, The Premier Celluloid in the Loewenstern Collection. This eclipse theme is found on several button designs for 1900, showing one candidate "eclipsing" the other. Most are sepia-toned although there is one variety in color which shows a single Bryan image eclipsing a single portrait of McKinley. All are considered rare; the U.I. Harris specimen of the single-pictures color eclipse was sold for a record $11,700 in 2000 by Slater's Americana.
Fewer than five examples of this 1 1/4" jugate version are known and this is the first we have ever handled. The record price is probably a confirmed private sale also in 2000, at $20,000. The present copy is in choice condition, and will satisfy the most demanding collector or investor. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the truly legendary celluloid button rarities. From the Norman Loewenstern Collection.
