Description

Alfred E. Smith: Rare Michigan Coat-tail Jugate. Although coattail buttons were used extensively throughout 20th-century political campaigns, it seems that Al Smith's chances for election were so slim that only one coattail jugate was issued. This 1 ¾" x 1 ¼" oval celluloid in a brass frame shows Smith and Bill Comstock, the Democratic candidate for governor of Michigan. It was issued for a one-day convention in Grand Rapids and was saved by the consignor's grandfather who threw it in a glass jar where it remained until now. This example does have a surface scratch which runs from the union bug to the letter "B" in "Bill." It remains a particularly clean example. We were able to locate two auction appearances in the last fifteen years where the final price was $3,500 on both occasions.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
