Woman's Suffrage: National Women's Party Pin. This beautiful ½" purple, white, and gold enamel was made for Alice Paul's National Woman's Party. The NPW explained that purple stood for the "Royal glory of Womanhood"; white for "Purity in the home and in Politics"; and gold for the "Crown of Victory". It took a more militant stance than its mainstream counterpart, the National American Woman Suffrage Association," and it was Alice Paul who organized the women of the "Silent Sentinels," some of whom chained themselves to the White House gates. Despite their influence, they did not issue all that many lapel pieces, and most of those that they did issue, are very rare. This piece, for example, is the only one ever to surface in an auction.
