William Henry Harrison: Superb Large Double-sided Campaign Sulfide, the Joe Brown Collection Example. By far the largest and most impressive of political sulfides in amazing condition. The strongest contrast and best background we have ever seen on one of these, coupled with the cleanest surface (the thick domed covering on these is rock crystal, not glass). The surfaces are very prone to scratches and general wear; however this one has unimprovably clean crystals. Even the soft pewter rim is flawless. Remnant of original suspension ribbon still attached. These sulfides are vulnerable to moisture, which caused flaking of the paint on many if not most examples. For accuracy we note the slightest hint of some incipient lifting of the paint in the field, but the black paint in 100% intact as the photos show.

This was one of the most prized pieces in Joe Brown's legendary collection, and it sold for a record price of $11,950, with ten different bidders, when auctioned by Heritage in December 2005. Here is a rare second chance to own this marvelous and pedigreed example. Diameter 43mm.
