Report Of The Committee To Whom Was Referred So Much Of The President's Message, As Relates To The Land Bill. Houston: Borden & Moore, Public Printers. 1837. Paper wrappers; disbound. 8vo. 8pp. Very good. Lightly dampstained with faint mold spots throughout.

Issued by William G. Hill as chairman of the Committee assigned to review laws regarding public lands. The report concerns itself primarily with the need to conduct a thorough and detailed land survey of the young Republic, and that said survey should focus on "sectionizing the country to be surveyed, in some convenient manner." The committee suggests that only after the completion of such a survey, should a governmental land office be opened and/or additional land grants be approved.

Reference: Streeter 197 (three copies located, one at TxWFM). McMurtrie in Pioneer Printing in Texas shows the title page of this item and states that it was the first Houston imprint. It now appears that Streeter 217 was the first and this may have been the second.
