Lincoln & Hamlin: Extraordinary Jugate "Rail Splitter" Campaign Newspaper. When the piece crossed our desk all the catalogers where wide eyed with mouths agape! Not one of us have ever encountered another example. An extraordinary issue of The Rail Splitter 1860 campaign newspaper titled "The Pictorial Rail Splitter". The issue, 4 pp., Chicago, Ill., September 3, 1860, has jugate images of the 1860 Republican Standard Bearers Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin along with their biographies. Below is anti Stephen Douglas pictorial campaign rhetoric. Between Lincoln and Hamlin is an image of the famed "Republican Wigwam" in Chicago. The back page continues with more pictorial campaign rhetoric....Pro Lincoln and anti Douglas. The interior pages contain a campaign ballot in support of Lincoln and Hamlin as well as advertising for a campaign biography and subscription to the newspaper by Charles Leib, the Editor and Publisher. The paper has some minor loss at the folds, the front page has a tear at the lower right corner (Still attached), and some edge roughness. Considering the rarity of this piece we feel these issues can be overlooked. Possibly a "Once in a lifetime" opportunity to acquire one of the best "Rail Splitter" campaign items.
