    Description

George Washington: 1st British Printing of Declaration of Independence. This is a bound copy of six issues of "The Gentleman's Magazine" for July-December 1776. This magazine was published in London and contained poems, commentary and news items. The August 1776 issue contains the first British printing of the Declaration of Independence. In referring to it, the editors state: "In the preceding part of this Magazine the reader will find the Declaration of Independency issued by the American Congress, with a recapitulation of the grievances which have forced them into that desperate measure. Whether those grievances were real or imaginary, or whether they did or did not deserve a parliamentary enquiry, we will not presume to decide. The ball is now struck, and time only can shew where it will rest." The various issues contain Revolutionary War news, public comments pro and con regarding the Declaration, and correspondence between Washington and General Howe on the prospects of an early peace. There are no maps and the August issue is missing one leaf (pages 351-352 which is provided in facsimile). There is moderate wear to the binding.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
