Andrew Jackson: A Rare and Colorful Sewing Box with Portrait Lid. Anyone who has followed Heritage Americana auctions closely for the past several years might think this item rather mundane, as this is the third example we have been privileged to offer. However, this selection probably represents roughly half the known population of this highly desirable early three-dimensional item. Jackson's hand-colored portrait with his name around and a folk art eagle under glass decorate the top, while the sides have a rainbow-hued geometric pattern. Sometimes these boxes had a hinged lid, but in this case the lid seems never to have been connected to the box. While the sides exhibit light "aging", and there is a bit of very minor deterioration of the paper on the lid around the very edges, this is unquestionably in the best condition of the three examples we have offered. The very vulnerable embossed paper trim around the lid is intact, and rarely seen so on this type of box. A very special piece for the serious collector of early political display items. Measures 5" x 3.5" x 2" deep.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
