    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Rare Circa 1865 Coin Silver Pocket Watch. The portrait of Lincoln is the same as found on oval 1865 Lincoln memorial tokens, and the watch itself is of that period. There is no memorial flavor to the decoration, and it is certainly possible that this watch was issued prior to Lincoln's assassination. The case is marked "Warranted Coin Silver", the movement is Swiss dating from the mid-nineteenth century, and the dial is of plain white enamel. While not in running order, the watch is in nice display condition with light, even surface wear indicating that it was carried for years. Ornate Victorian fob attached. Diameter 2.125".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
