    Description

[John F. Kennedy] Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. Inscribed Campaign Biography: KENNEDY OR NIXON Does It Make Any Difference? (New York: The Macmillan Co., 1960), first edition, 8vo, in the original dust-jacket. A fine and well-preserved copy. Pulitzer Prize historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. inscribed the free-end paper "In memory of a stirring election - and an enthralling year. Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr." A little known-fact: Schlesinger wrote this campaign biography at the direction of Kennedy in just two weeks in August, well in time to be on shelves by September. The election of 1960 remains one of the most rancorous - partly because of the new use of television to air campaign speeches and debates. This was considered an important book in its day revealing Kennedy and Nixon as diametric opposites. Schlesinger credited this campaign biography with helping to persuade Stevenson Democrats that "Kennedy wasn't so bad." The first signed copy we have encountered.
