    Description

Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln: A Superb Pair of Large Tintype Photos in Original Mats and Frames. Each tintype is between sixth plate and quarter plate in size. Condition is essentially mint, with some very minor bubbling on the perimeter of the Mary Todd, as made. The black borders suggest that these were issued for memorial purposes shortly after Lincoln's April 1865 assassination. While both images are well known in other sizes and formats, this is the first time we have encountered them in this most impressive large format. Each measures 4.25" x 5.5", with great display presence.
