    Description

    1852 Clay Memorial Medal
30 mm medal by Merriam of Boston commemorating the death of "The Eloquent Defender of National Rights." Very similar to medals produced in 1860 for Lincoln, Douglas, Bell and Everett. Possibly issued at that time to honor a Southern politician who placed National Rights above States' Rights. Copper, and scarce in this metal. Quite attractive and rare.
