    Martin Van Buren: 1848 Free Soil Party Cartoon. Medium folio lithograph [18 3/4" x 13 1/4"] published in 1848 by Peter Smith of New York. Titled "Smoking Him Out." It depicts Martin and John Van Buren , representing the Barnburner faction of the Democratic Party, setting fire to a barn and forcing Lewis Cass to flee for his life. John exclaims "That's you DAD! More 'FREE SOIL' We'll rat 'em out yet. Long life to Davy Wilmot." Paper residue/remnants in three corners, on verso. Excellent overall. Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
