John F. Kennedy: World War II U.S. Navy Service Field Hat. When Lt. John F. Kennedy, then in his mid-twenties, brought his PT boat in for service to the Island of Tulagi in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, he met a boat mechanic named George L. McGinnis from South Boston. JFK took a liking to him and gave Mr. McGinnis his hat as a souvenir. Years later, Senator Kennedy offered Mr. McGinnis a position with the Boston Port Authority. JFK's service field hat was manufactured by Art Caps Military Headwear New York, with a size of 7-1/8. Inserted in the plastic lining of the cap is an age-toned slip of paper with the typed name "Lt. John F. Kennedy." This lot is accompanied by a photograph of Lt. Kennedy wearing his U.S. Navy Service Field Hat. Overall fine condition.
