    Description

John C. Frémont: A Rare and Important Embroidered Political Sampler. These charming samplers (16 3/8" x 16 7/8") must be among the most ubiquitous of 19th century folk art genres. It seems like nearly every young girl and woman must have created one or more of these highly personal artworks.

Usually, these include religious or family content. In nearly a half century, we have encountered only several which expressed political sentiments. This great example for the first Republican Presidential candidate must be considered as an important example of collectable political textiles. Formerly in the distinguished collection of U. I. "Chick" Harris and purchased when that monumental collection was auctioned two decades ago. Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
