    Description

James Madison: Liverpool Pitcher by Herculaneum Pottery Company. 7.75" tall pitcher with central transfer portrait of "James Maddison [sic] President of the United States of America". The opposite side has a standard "Peace, Plenty and Independence" transfer. An eagle with thirteen stars appears below the spout. Restored spout with light overall aging, one firing blister to the right of the portrait, and a few very faint spider cracks in the blank field. The transfer is unusually crisp and clean. It actually depicts Jefferson and was recycled when Madison became President.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
