    James G. Blaine: Simply the Most Exciting Poster of this Era Which We Have Ever Encountered! Strong words, but the photo speaks for itself. This very large (27" x 41") multi-color poster was produced by the "J. M. W. Jones Stat'y & P't'g. Co." of Chicago. It honors the Kansas "Loyal Delegates to the 1884 Republican National Convention" who stuck with Blaine on the second ballot to allow him to edge out the incumbent president Chester A. Arthur for the presidential nomination.

    Words fail us in trying to convey the unique, striking design and vibrant color. Flanked by Kansas corn and wheat, the nominee and his running mate, John A. Logan, are pictured on a giant size banner hoisted by a crowd of enthusiastic supporters. According to the legend at the bottom, it is a representation of "the large banner that was carried through the streets of Chicago by the Kansas Delegation to the Republican National Convention on June 5th, 1884." The banner "created the wildest excitement, and aroused great enthusiasm for the 'Plumed Knight.'" Upon the announcement of Blaine's nomination this victorious banner was again carried through the aisles of Convention Hall. It is interesting to note the presence of numerous black faces. At that time the "Party of Lincoln" had support among African-American voters which was greater than that enjoyed by the modern day Democratic Party.

    The poster is in exceptional condition, with fine orignal fold lines visible only on close inspection. Nicely custom framed under plexiglass. This is the only example we have ever seen and, like other hobby veterans we consulted, we had never so much as heard of its existence. Arguable the most appealing political poster ever presented by Heritage!
