    Description

Hughes & Fairbanks: A Stunning 1 ¼-inch Jugate Rarity. All Hughes jugates of 1 ¼" size or larger are rare, and this is certainly one of the top two varieties, with auction sale records in excess of $15,000. Like the large Harding-Coolidge jugate in this sale, the colors are so vivid the design appears almost three-dimensional. One of perhaps four to six known examples, and in choice condition with perfect centering. Button paper is missing on verso, but the metal back is stamped with the name of Bastian Brothers of Rochester, New York. From the Merrill C. Berman Collection.
