Henry Clay: Spectacular 1844 Campaign Flag. This is an impressive item in any condition, but finding an example of this quality is truly awesome. It is the largest Clay flag, measuring 31" x 52". There is a large portrait of Clay, surrounded by stars, in the blue canton. The blue overprint reads: "Clay/ Frelinghuysen/ And/ Protective Tariff". The red and blue colors are absolutely vibrant with no fading whatsoever. It is made of linen, is quite supple and handles easily. It is finished along the top and bottom. There is a slight vertical damp stain to the right of the portrait with some resulting bleeding of blue ink. There is also an offset ghost image reading "Markle" (Whig candidate for governor of Pennsylvania) that appears on the third white stripe. That said, it is absolutely magnificent! We feel confident in saying that you will not find a finer example, search high or low.
