Henry Clay: Large "Whig Prize Banner" Print. 15.5" x 20.25" lithograph published by 1844 by William Curlett & John Gade of Baltimore, printed by Edward Weber, titled "Grand National Whig Prize Banner Badge." The whereabouts of the actual banner, painted by Curlett and made by Gade, is unknown. It was apparently displayed at the Baltimore convention that nominated Clay for the presidency. It proved so popular that it was used on lapel ribbons, sheet music, etc. This print was intended as a prize or souvenir to "the Whigs of such State as shall have the proportionally largest number of Delegates in attendance." Two minor border tears.
