DescriptionGrover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison: Bisque Figurines Balance Beam Toy Scale. One of the "hoariest" of campaign slogans is "Weighed in the Balance and Found Wanting." This is no better illustrated than with the classic Cleveland and Harrison bisque figurines. Each candidate is portrayed as a baby held suspended in an American flag diaper. They are made of bisque and hand-painted in natural colors. The figures are accompanied by a wooden beam balance that can be adjusted so that the candidate-of-choice can outweigh his opponent. Dating from 1888 or 1892, this remains one of the most popular and enduring campaign knick-knacks. This one is in excellent condition save for a replacement of the central suspension hook.
