George Washington Inaugural Button, WI-1A, GW-1789-4. Designated the "Eagle with Date" pattern, the design on this button consists of the Federal eagle, a brilliant sun (representing the dawn of a new era) and the original date set for the inauguration. It is inscribed "March the Fourth 1789 Memorable Era." This appears to be a dug specimen, as are many. Originally issued in silvered brass, the back of the button has tarnished to a black finish. The front of the button is well-struck with good detail, but has darkened and retains light to moderate porosity. The shank is missing. This is one of the "key" varieties from the series that includes approximately twenty distinct designs.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
