    Description

George Washington: Highly Important Unlisted Portrait Shank Button. Dewey Albert lists only one authenticated Washington portrait button: the rare "Pater Patria", This brass button, which we initially sold in June 2008, constitutes a second variety. Although there is a very minor light, even surface porosity, the color and patina are consistent and pleasing, and the incused portrait and "G. Washington" below are quite strong. The portrait is an excellent one, and he wears a tri-corner hat similar to that seen on the "Pater Patria" variety. The shank is original and appears to be cast as an integral part of the button itself. This is a highly important find, which in light of the recent strong auction market for G.W. buttons, should generate considerable bidder interest. 12mm x 20mm in size. From the Brook Mahoney Collection of George Washington Inaugural Buttons.
