    Description

George Washington: Complete Set of 18th Century Pictorial Silver Cuff Links. Two sets of cuff links, each with a pair of oval silver shanked buttons depicting "Gen. Washington". The buttons measures 18 mm x 12 mm (approximately 3/4" x 1/2"). No markings. The shanks are a little wider than normal. An "S" loop secures each set. Each shows honest wear. They are close relatives to the oval pictorial cuff buttons for Washington and Adams that occasionally surface. The portrait of Washington, in the form of a Roman statesman, is similar to that seen on colonial era copper cents.
We are aware of only two other examples (cuff buttons), both of which were sold by Heritage in separate sales. As cuff links, these are "unique" and we felt compelled to offer them as a complete set, rather than breaking them up. Collectors of Washington inaugural buttons should find them of particular interest.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
