    Description

    George Washington: 1798 Broadside Accepting Command of United States Forces. 9 1/2" x 17" [sight] broadside titled "General Washington's Letter, Declaring his Acceptance of the Command of the Armies of the United States". Washington wrote to John Adams from Mount Vernon on July 15, 1798, accepting the call-to-duty in what would be termed the Quasi-War with France (July 7, 1798 to September 30, 1800). He was given the rank of Lieutenant-General and Commander-in-Chief of the Army. Matted and framed to an overall size of 14 1/2" x 22 1/2" [not examined outside of frame). OCLC indicates one copy in the Boston Athenaeum. Overall in excellent condition. Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
