Franklin Pierce: 1852 Cartoon Featuring the Nominee and Presidential Hopefuls. Medium folio [21" x 14"] lithograph published by J. Childs of New York in 1852, titled "Political Hypocrisy. Disappointed Candidates congratulating Genl. Frank Pierce on his nomination for the Presidency." Besides Pierce, we see Douglas, Cass, Buchanan, Marcy, Dickinson and Sam Houston. Each also-ran pledges support, but comments on their failed effort and/or chances in the next election. Hinged at top to mat. Crease in lower right corner, one border tear, two small areas of loss along left side, none of which shows with the mat in place. Very good overall. The first example we have seen.
