    Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Important and Almost Certainly Unique 1911 Photo Display Featuring a Young Roosevelt as a New York State Senate Member. FDR had worked hard to win a New York state senate seat in a traditionally Republican district. He was immediately recognized as a "comer," and in this first legislative session in 1911, he became a leader in the movement to resist the selection by the Senate of Tammany's choice for the U.S. Senate (this was before direct election of senators).

Pictured in this remarkable display are FDR and his fellow "Insurgents," as they came to be known. Each image is an actual high-quality 3.25" x 4.625" oval photo on which the state senator's name has been hand-lettered in white India ink. At the bottom is a hand-lettered black ink caption: "The Insurgents/ Senatorial Contest/ New York State Legislature/ 1911". Overall size 21" x 26.5". Condition is excellent, with some minor edge and corner damage to the cardboard mount. A very special opportunity for the serious FDR or New York locals collector to obtain one of the most interesting and significant artifacts of Roosevelt's earliest foray into politics.
