    Description

Super 1884 Blaine Badge With Plumed Knight Helmet
It was popular in the 19th century to attach nicknames to prominent figures. Blaine was known as "The Plumed Knight," and this theme appears on various campaign items. In Blaine's case the virtuous-sounding name is rather ironic, since as Speaker of the House he played a central role in one of the most corrupt and sleazy eras in the history of American representative government. This unusual brass-shell badge has large inset cardboard photo, with original pin on reverse. Choice condition. Height 2 1/2". From the Joe Brown Collection.
