Rare Large 1872 Grant & Wilson "Porthole" Jugate Ferrotype. The "mate" to the Greeley & Brown also offered in this sale! These are among the largest, scarcest, and most valued of ferrotype jugates. The 1872 Grant & Wilson is many times rarer (and commands two to three times the price) than the similar 1868 Grant & Colfax version. These jugates, probably because they were often carried as pocket pieces rather than worn as badges, tend to come with worn and damaged ferro surfaces. This one is exceptionally clean, save for a shallow surface dent on Wilson's face that does not penetrate the emulsion. As with many of this particular variety, the photos are a little out of register and "fuzzy" as made, but the bright images and clean surface more than compensate. From the Joe Brown Collection. Diameter 34mm.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
