    Description

George B. McClellan: Perhaps the Most Singular Campaign Ferrotype We Have Ever Handled! In nearly 40 years we have never encountered another example of this type, nor have any of the seasoned hobbyists we asked. The front is a fairly typical 1864 McClellan pose, while the frame is quite unusual, presumably some sort of composition material which closely resembles ivory. Original brass suspension loop at the top. But what really makes this such a unique ferrotype is the reverse: instead of the usual Pendleton photograph, there is a TINTYPE insert bearing the slogan "THE CONSTITUTION AND THE UNION FOREVER". Almost certainly some sort of manufacturer's trial piece, as no other example has ever come to light. Absolutely pristine condition and a prize of the highest order for the sophisticated collector of pre-1896 campaign material. Diameter 22mm.
