    Description

Fremont & Cochrane: Gem Gault-Frame Ferrotype. The candidates of the Radical Republicans, Fremont & Cochrane, appear on either side of this 1" gilt brass back-to-back ferrotype badge. The ticket only ran briefly, withdrawing from the field in September. These "Gault-frame" or hourglass ferrotypes were made for all three candidates. There are two varieties of the Lincoln and two of the Fremont. The Fremont varieties consist of an early portrait and a later, war-date portrait. This is the latter version and the more desirable. As far as condition is concerned, this one is literally pristine and unimprovable! It was never holed and, apparently, never worn or handled.
