Cleveland & Thurman: The Best Jugate Badge Variety from the 1888 Election. What a centerpiece for any display! These are often referred to as ambrotypes, but it is more accurate to say that there is a decal applied to the underside of the large 43mm glass center. These decals were very prone to bubbling and flaking, and although not mint, this is one of the best appearing examples we have encountered. Very minor light areas in the field and two extremely trivial small black marks in the field are of minimal consequence; the portraits themselves are perfect.

The brass shell anchored the bottom, present here, is missing on most examples, as are the finials on the flagpoles at either side (one present here). Overall the brass part of the badge is excellent, with remnants of original luster, and the original pin is on the back. An example which should satisfy even the most condition-conscious collectors. Length 5.5".
