Breckinridge & Lane: A Choice 1860 "Doughnut" Ferrotype. So-called because the hollow silvered brass frame seems reminiscent of a doughnut. These frames are much scarcer than the familiar flat brass style, especially when the silvering is intact as in the present example. Under careful examination we note a little extremely trivial chipping around the edge on both ferro surfaces. However, this copy is otherwise near mint. By their very nature ferrotypes are extremely difficult to find in literally flawless condition. It is often necessary to balance positives and negatives. In the case of the present Breckinridge example, it is hard to imagine one in better overall condition. Diameter 23mm.
