    Description

Benjamin F. Butler: Outrageous One-of-a-Kind Greenback Turtle Mechanical Badge .75" x 1.5" brass shell badge in the shape of a turtle. The shell is attached to a spring mechanism and lifts up to reveal an albumen portrait of the 1884 National Greenback Labor Party candidate. The shell has some green hand-painted highlights while the head has some red highlights. Butler was often ridiculed and pictured as a bull frog or other grotesque reptilian. His incarnation as a turtle seems more benign and supportive. Retains the original safety pin attachment. Great overall condition, especially the photo. All we can say is "Wow!"
