    Description

Abraham Lincoln: The Sought-after Largest Size of "Doughnut" Ferrotype. A fine example with sharp portraits and strong contrast. When the light hits at the right angle, some minor irregularities in the emulsion are detected but, as the photo shows, both sides display quite nicely. There is light crazing on both portraits, visible only at an angle. We note only three prior appearances of this variety at auction (Zabriskie sale, Railsplitter and Heritage). Bulbous hollow frame, hence the designation "doughnut"-- once silvered, now an even copper tone. Diameter 47 mm. Listed as AL-1860-121.
