Abraham Lincoln: Super Rare Back-to-Back Ferrotype Badge. This is Sullivan-DeWitt AL-1864-93. It is 26 mm. It comes in two sizes... this and a 20 mm. version. The smaller version shows up from time to time. Not so with this. We are aware of only two specimens: the one being offered and an example sold as part of the Zabriskie Collection. Mates were made for McClellan (without date, stars and names) and Fremont. This example, while quite nice, has some flaws. There are three black splotches above Lincoln's portrait and two areas of fuzziness obscuring part of the name and one or two stars. Still, the portrait of Lincoln is largely unaffected and remains sharp and clear. The Johnson side is excellent. The ferrotype surfaces are flat and smooth with no bubbling, chipping or blisters. Overall, it is a very decent specimen lacking in practically everyone's collection!

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
