Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas: Beautiful "Belt Buckle" Ferrotypes. Astonishing pair of oval ferrotype badges or pendants, each measuring 1 1/4" x 1 5/8" with original suspension loops at top. We have seen these same roped & chased frames on "belt buckle" ferrotypes and stickpins (ref. JBELL-1860-48). Even the loops are roped! The Douglas is essentially in perfect, mint condition. The Lincoln is just about as nice. It does have several chips around the outer perimeter, likely done when the portrait was being cut out from the sheet of multiple images. There is some bubbling of the emulsion just at the bottom of Lincoln's vest, of no consequence. We would grade it excellent. to near mint. A red silk bow is included which we assume was sewn onto one of the loops when first issued. It could easily be reattached by a skilled seamstress. These are so nice, it would be a shame to break them up, so we didn't!! They have been together for at least the last 40 years and are "inseparable!"
