DescriptionAbraham Lincoln and George B. McClellan: Stunning Pair of Large 1864 Ferrotypes. With a brass frame diameter of 45 mm, and ferrotype surface measuring nearly 35 mm, these are the largest-size ferrotypes available for Lincoln and McClellan! The Abraham Lincoln is listed in DeWitt as item AL-1864-83, apparently the mate featuring George B. McClellan was unknown at the time of publishing for both the 1959 J. Doyle DeWitt reference, and the subsequent update published in 1981 by Edmond B. Sullivan. Both items feature brass frames stamped at the bottom with, "Patent Applied For," having a tiny hole at the top and cardboard backs. The ferrotype surfaces are smooth, with sharp and clear images. When tipped to a light source both examples exhibit extremely minor surface wear. Overall condition for each is excellent. A very fine pair that would make an impressive centerpiece in a collection of 1864 campaign material!
