    Description

A Choice Example of the Largest Lincoln Ferrotype Variety. This mammoth beauty from the Joe Brown Collection is the perfect centerpiece for any Lincoln collection! With a ferro surface of 34mm and an overall diameter of 45mm, it is, by far, the largest Lincoln variety, and is especially noteworthy among 1864 items. It is also desirable in that a McClellan mate also exists, creating the possibility of a most dramatic pairing. As the catalog photo shows, it is in great condition, although for strictest accuracy only we note a few exceedingly trivial fine surface scratches, not even visible unless the light hits it at just the right angle. Considering the large unprotected ferro surface, the condition is truly remarkable. Reverse is blank as made; there is a small hole in the frame at the top for suspension, but most known examples of both the Lincoln and the McClellan are in this present state. A very rare item, with perhaps only a half-dozen copies extant in this condition. One of the prize ferrotypes of the entire Joe Brown Collection.
