    Description

Election of 1884: Political Theme Lithographic Calendar, The Great Rock Island & Pacific Railway. The gorgeous calendar pictures Lady Liberty standing next to a seated Uncle Sam. Pointing to a poster with potential presidential candidates, he asks, "Goddess of Liberty, which of these shall we select in 1884?" To which she replies, "Uncle Sam, your material is good, but your question troubles me." The poster contains the pictures of Republicans, Chester Alan Arthur, Robert Todd Lincoln, James G. Blaine, George Edmunds, and Democrats, Samuel Tilden, Thomas Bayard, Allen Thurman, Grover Cleveland. The calendar measures 9.75" x 11.75" and is attractively framed (14" x 16" overall). Only the month of December remains on the calendar. A very colorful and fine piece of early lithography. From the U. I. "Chick" and Cecilia Harris Collection.
