Dwight D. Eisenhower: Personally-Owned Presidential Golf Ball. Like many of our 20th-century presidents, Ike was an avid golfer. We offer one of his golf balls, a Titleist 8 stamped "Mr. President". The provenance regarding its acquisition is fairly extensive. The consignor's grandfather was Justin Leroy Johnson, a California Congressman from Stockton (1943-1957) and a delegate to the RNC in 1936 and 1946. Johnson developed a friendship with Richard Nixon, elected to the Congress from California in 1946. After becoming Vice-President, Nixon gave the ball to Johnson. Sometime in the 1950's, Johnson went on a golf outing to the Burning Tree Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The foursome included his son-in-law (the consignor's father), Congressman Everett Scrivner of Kansas and Congressman George Mahon of Texas. It was at this time that Johnson gave the Ike ball to his son-in-law as a gift. Besides the ball, the lot includes the Burning Tree scorecard from that day as well as two Burning Tree matchbooks.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
