Cox & Roosevelt: Glorious St. Louis Button Company Jugate. 7/8" real photo button featuring portraits of the 1920 Democratic nominees. An eagle and shield appears overhead, an American flag below, all against a background of sun rays. There are a few tight celluloid splits on the back side, of no consequence, and faint staining at the bottom of the button which tends to blend in and does not affect the portraits in any way. St. Louis Button Company back paper. This dynamic design was first introduced in the election of 1904, then resurrected for Roosevelt & Johnson in 1912 and again for the major party candidates of 1920. As with all Cox & Roosevelt jugates, it rarely appears in the market. We have seen mint examples where the portraits and design were on the light side. The printing is exceptionally bold here. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a Holy Grail of political Americana! From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.
