Bryan & Stevenson: Rare New Jersey Advertising Jugate. 1 1/4" button with sepia photos of the 1900 Democrats against a greenish background, inscribed "Read Bergen County Herald". Filled back, made by Cranley of Chicago. Spot of glue residue on verso, small "bite" out of the curl/paper, a few fox marks, slight cloudiness (likely as made), off-center. However, it is rare "as all get-out" and the defects are not overpowering. It might make some headlines.

Note: This rare jugate certainly has a distinguished history. It was formerly in the renowned U.I. "Chick" Harris collection, and was pictured in the original 1972 Hake book (Bryan item #41). As New Jersey collectors the Frents had long coveted this piece, and Chick, shrewd negotiator that he was, exacted a stiff price in trade in order to let it migrate from St. Louis to Fort Lee. We have handled but one other example, sold in a 1997 Slater's Americana auction at the Las Vegas APIC national convention. It drew fierce competition before soaring to a selling price of nearly $3000.
The Bergen County Bryan-Stevenson has been one of the Frents' favorite celluloids, and they made sure that it found a place in Running for President, Vol II (page 19).
