    Description

Andrew Jackson: 1834 Cartoon. This anti-Jackson cartoon measures 21" x 14.5" and is titled "The People putting Responsibility to the test or the downfall of the Kitchen Cabinet and Collar Presses." The publisher is T. W. Whitby. Jackson, exclaiming "... I've been a mere tool to that Damn'd Amos [Kendall] and his set..." escapes to the Hermitage, carried on the back of Major Jack Downing. Henry Clay and other Senators view the chaos with some satisfaction that their predictions have come true. A mob of angry, former bank depositors riot in the streets. A sailor exchanges his $10 note for $1 in hard currency from a Jewish stock & exchange broker. Two slaves foresee their freedom with the imminent collapse of the government, praising William Lloyd Garrison. A bunch of New York newspaper editors are chained together like dogs. Save for a couple of minor border tears and edge roughness, it is in great shape.
