1896 J. H. Shaw Campaign Buttons and Display Card. This sample card holds four 3/4" campaign lapel studs from the 1896 election- two jugates for the G.O.P. ticket of McKinley & Hobart and two single-portraits of William Jennings Bryan captioned "Protection," all of which have red, white, and blue backgrounds. Shaw's advertising copy states: "Campaign and all other kinds of Buttons, Badges and Portraits for Candidates. If Photograph is sent, we will make samples free." Prices are given for these buttons at $2.50 per hundred or $20 per thousand (what an investment that would have made!). The 1896 election is an extremely important one to political collectors and this offers a great advertising tie-in. The card is a bit crumpled and a couple of tears are repaired on the verso but it still makes a great display piece.
