    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Ribbon with Tintype and History of Its Owner. Framed presentation including a 2.5" x 6.75" silk campaign ribbon for the 1860 Republican candidate (spotting and loss, as shown, with fading of the original aqua color) and a ninth-plate tintype of its youthful owner. He has written a caption: "This Badge was worn in a Lincoln Parade the fall of 1860 in the City of New Castle Pa by Smith R Reed. [12] I also voted for Lincoln for President the fall of 1864 at Fairfax Virginia [16]." Apparently, Smith not only enlisted underage in the Union Army, but he voted underage in the general election. It is most unusual to have a period photo of the voter along with the badge he wore, and a Union veteran at that! Not examined outside of frame.
